Three Reasons Spain are Title Contenders for Euros 2020
Spanish
National team may not be the favourites to win the UEFA Euros 2020, but this won’t
stop them from trying to achieve what they aim for
The current Spanish team is far away from the
quality and calibre of the team that won 2008 and 2012 Euros, and certainly with
new set of young players they were counted out to be the least favourites to
win the title as the Champions of Euro 2020.
But the performance against Croatia was a statement
of intent by the Spanish side, that they are here to fight, they may not be the
favourites to win to title but nevertheless this is not going to stop them to
go hard in the tournament and fight for the price.
Three Reason why Spain should not be ruled out as
potential title contenders for Euros 2020
1. Luis
Enrique and his project
Luis Enrique a name which all the Spanish and
Barcelona fans are well aware of took charge of the National team in 2018-19,
his first match in charge was a victory against England in the UEFA Nations
League at Wembly.
When he selected his team of 24 players for the
Euros, everyone was shocked as there was no Real Madrid player named in Enrique’s
squad, team captain Sergio Ramos had discussion with the manager and decided to
not join the squad over injury concerns.
Luis had other ideas and went for young players, the
likes of F.Torres, Pedri, A.Laporte, D.Almo, E.Garcia, U. Simon and Morata were
trusted, and they have delivered so far. Morata may be having his troubles in
front of the goal but is the figurehead for the team, leading the attacking
lines, Pedri has been phenomenal in the middle of the park, Laporte is strong
at the back of defence.
Not only they have incorporated the Spanish football
but Lusi Enrique has placed his trust onto the younger generation which could
prove decisive when they venture further into the tournament.
2. Quality in depth on the bench
There are few teams who could bring on players that
can change the game on its head, and Spain has their fair share of players to
bring on from the bench, in the game against Croatia, they had Jordi Alba,
Fabian Ruiz and Oyarzabal come on from the bench which did had a major impact
on the game. Jordi Alba maybe not known for his defensive attributes is a
lethal weapon going up front and Oyarzabal did prove his worth by netting in
the final goal against Croatia in a 5-3 win.
Gaya and Azpilicueta were given a nod to start the
game which shows that Spain are well equipped to adapt to their opponents and
the trust garnished by the manager Luis Enrique is paying off slowly but
steadily in the competition so far.
3. Spain is a cohesive unit and has strong team
synergy

Perhaps Italy might have to say something after
this, Spain no doubt has emerged as a calm and a collective unit, D,Degea
despite losing his place to Unai Simon celebrated with him without holding any
emotions of disagreement, the team and the manager has backed Alvaro Morata who
has got a lot of stick from the fans for poor finishing. But the team does
trust him and they look like a unit well mannered and disciplined, they would
go the extra mile for their fellow teammates.
The team though has a influx of youth there are
calmer and more experienced heads like, Busquets, J.Alba, Koke &
Azpilicueta with the team which will help them navigate well throughout the tournament
and ensure the team stays focused on their path.
Many of the Pundits did have teams like France and
Netherlands to be the favourites of the tournament well it seems, Football
still has a lot of surprises for us and never ceases to amaze the fans, People
are also growing on the idea that Italy and England has it all the go all the
way. But what people should take note is that this young team under the
guidance of Luis Enrique are one to watch out for and with Switzerland next in
Quarter Finals Spain will surely believe they have it what it takes to go the
extra mile and who know they might even make it to the Finals.
